The Four Cs of Suicide Prevention
Compassion in Action
1. Connect
Build trust through calm, empathetic conversation. Show you're present. Say things like: "I'm here for you."
2. Confront
Ask directly: "Are you thinking about ending your life?" Asking doesn’t increase risk—ignoring does.
3. Confirm
Let them know their pain is real and valid. Confirm your support: "You’re not alone. I care."
4. Contract
Help create a short-term safety plan—e.g., "Promise me you’ll reach out before doing anything." Provide resources or contact help together.
In crisis? Call a local helpline or emergency services immediately. You matter.
